Memorial Weekend we took a trip of a lifetime! A houseboat trip was on my in-law’s bucket list and who could blame them. Plus doing it on Lake Powell was the ultimate dream. Lake Powell is absolutely stunning. Giant rock formations and gorgeous desert scenery on a lake.

We were all in! We did all the research, read every blog/article, asked friends and even watched safety videos….. Dun dun dunnnnn

Okay so let's call this the ultimate adventure. We knew we were essentially camping (if you follow me on Instagram my “rustic AF” comment in my stories was a huge hit) but we were not prepared for us making the 11 hour road trip and not having a boat, our grill lighting on fire the first night, losing the propeller on the speedboat on a sandbar and getting hit by a 50 mph windstorm and almost losing our houseboat. Yup I listed all of that.

We booked at Antelope Marina which after all of our research was supposed to be the best. The views were breathtaking. There were guys unloading our cars and driving our stuff down on golf carts, provisions stocking our boat, we were set up. My mother in law and brother in law planned everything to a t and did so much work prepping.

We get there, our generator on the boat is broken and they don't have a backup. I’m just cutting to the chase for you ha. Six hours later we have a boat. There were some other bumps I’m going to leave out but needless to say we’re off to a rough start.

We are up and moving, I’m repeating myself because the view is breathtaking so any bump is easy to forget. Oh wait, we lost a jet ski (we were towing them on the back of the houseboat) I have never driven one but apparently I learn quickly and I jump in to hop on the jet ski to save the day. Okay problem solved.

We set up camp for the week in Gunpoint Canyon. Beautiful red rock landscapes, calm waters and lots of great hiking.

I touched on some funny things that happened in the beginning. The grill was a freak thing and again “rustic AF” so we built a fire pit out of rocks and used the grate from the grill to cook food. The wind storm… no joke. We learned that in houseboating, anchoring is key. The winds hit and the anchors came loose and the back of our boat beached itself. Luckily boaters are amazing. We had fellow houseboaters from different boats show up to help us re anchor. All was good and the following night when another windstorm came we were all good.

Some awesome points! When chaos hit we worked as a team and as soon as we got through it laughed and thought what the… I will refrain from profanity.

We jet skied and slid down the water slide more times than I can count. There was lots of early morning and sunset fishing.

The hiking and scenery was beautiful and at the end of the day we crushed this adventure as a family.

Would we do this trip again??? Some are saying nope, some are saying yes. But are we glad we did it 100! The kids had the best time, we had the most laughs and created some hilarious stories to tell. I can totally see how families do this annually but I might need a beach resort and a cocktail in hand after this journey.
